Steam train and trolley-bus trips

Nördlingen - Dinkelsbühl - Feuchtwangen

The heritage trains that run on the "Romantic Road Railway" between Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl and Feuchtwangen link three towns with not-to-be-missed historic centres and some impressive medieval fortifications, which remain to a large extent intact to this day. Well-known, too, is the Dinkelsbühl 'Kinderzeche' folk festival in July. It commemorates the way in which the children of the town preserved it from destruction during the Thirty Years' War. Dinkelsbühl and Feuchtwangen not only lie on the Romantic Road; they are also on the Romantic Road Railway, the local train that runs between Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl, Feuchtwangen and Dombühl. Far from the main roads, the track snakes its way through the varied landscape. Short stops in the small stations en route ensure that the journey never becomes monotonous and provide a tiny impression of the peace and tranquillity, which used to reign in the little branch lines. Discover some of the spirit of the local railways depicted in the play of that name by Bavarian writer Ludwig Thoma!

Notes for travel groups

Groups of 20 or more can get reduced rates for the heritage trains by applying in advance. They then also get reserved seats on the train. Please apply, by e-mail, to the Bavarian Railway Museum in Nördlingen (Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum Nördlingen) at:
It is helpful if you can give a name and telephone number in case of questions, as well as the day of travel, the trains requested and the number in the group. You will then get a no-obligation quotation, or, if you book at the same time, you will then receive the group tickets directly from the rail staff. The special travel department would be happy to advise you if you have any further wishes – all sorts of things are possible, from a reserved compartment to an entire special train.
