The Romantic Road is the only quality vacation route that is signposted continuously and without gaps in both directions in accordance with the guidelines of the German Tourism Association. Vacation routes are currently only integrated into a few navigation devices. It is therefore recommended that you do not rely solely on the navigation aid, but follow the brown tourist signs. In this way, you can avoid well-developed, busy main roads, some of which are similar to freeways, and instead experience a charming route through varied landscapes and numerous small, unknown and charming places.
Arrival
Airplane and car
A trip along the Romantic Road is also easy from the international airports in Munich and Frankfurt: by (hire) car, you can reach Augsburg via the A 8 motorway; from Frankfurt, take the A3 motorway to Würzburg and then follow the brown ‘Romantische Strasse’ signs.
Romantic Road Coach
By bus along the Romantischen Straße – this means of transport has been transporting hundreds of thousands of travelers on the route between Würzburg and Füssen since 1950. From May to September, the Romantic Road Bus takes visitors from all over the world to historic towns such as Würzburg and Rothenburg. Book your day trip from Frankfurt or Würzburg. Along the vacation route, the view from the windows offers unforgettable impressions of the passing, untouched nature and varied landscapes.
German Rail
Or you can plan to travel by Deutsche Bahn: all larger towns have a rail connection and are linked to the regional public transport network. There are connections to the Deutsche Bahn ICE rail network in Würzburg, Donauwörth and Augsburg. Information and booking options are available at all Deutsche Bahn advance booking offices or your travel agency with a DB license or directly from the transport companies:
