Romantic Road and Rothenburg ob der Tauber (RRCFRA

The coach departs from the Romantic Road Coach stop (Section A, A1-A3) of the Main Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof) at 09.00 hrs in the morning. If the road is closed, the coach stops immediately in front of the station’s Kaiserstrasse exit, at the replacement-bus stop.

After driving through the Spessart forest, the coach reaches the university city of Würzburg before travelling on to the Tauber valley. Three wine-growing regions meet at Bad Mergentheim and Markelsheim: Baden, Württemberg and Franconia. Passing the sunny vineyards, the landmarks of the town of Weikersheim come into view: the Renaissance palace and the Baroque garden. At the historic marketplace, a guide dressed in historical costume awaits the guests (opportunity for a special tour). Röttingen is Germany’s first ‘European town’ (Europastadt) and the European flag can be seen flying in front of the Baroque town hall. Around lunchtime, the silhouette of Rothenburg ob der Tauber appears in the coach windows: the highlights include the walkable town walls, the historic marketplace and town hall, the Gothic parish church of St. Jacob and ‘Plönlein’, the medieval town’s most popular photographic motif. On the return journey, the coach makes a photo stop at the Prince-Bishop’s Residence in Würzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the starting place of the Romantic Road. Crossing the River Main offers a final view of the Marienberg fortress and the Rococo ‘Käppele’ pilgrimage church. After journeying back via the Spessart forest and past the city of Aschaffenburg, the coach arrives in Frankfurt at 19.35 hrs.
